The Manchester Museum / Manchester University
Office Removal Case Studies
The Manchester Museum is unique among English university museums, possessing a worldwide collection of both the natural sciences and humanities. These include botany, zoology, geology, antiquities, ethnography, archery, and numismatics. They possess over five million specimens and artefacts, all of which have been designated.
Careful preparation to move precious, rare artefacts
BCL Office Moving undertook the re-relocation of The Manchester Museum, which included many delicate and irreplaceable pieces.
The project included the careful preparation, casing and relocation of a diverse range of artefacts within the collection. These included mummies, a 25' long Inca canoe, a 20' tall plaster of paris cross, a Buddha, butterflies, and a large stuffed buffalo.
To ensure no harm came to the pieces, our staff wore protective gloves, as well as utilising specialist wrapping materials such as acid-free tissue. It was necessary to build bespoke wooden cases for selected items, with tilt stickers to ensure their safe transit.
